News - Sweet Rewards For The Less Fortunate

Come and join the friends of Health Partners by ringing in the beginning of the Spring Season and all the sweetness that goes with it, by attending a “A Piece Of Cake Dessertfest” to help our neighbors in Charles County that are unable to afford health insurance.

Enjoy The Fabulous Hub Caps with dinner, dancing, silent auction, and a celebrity dessert auction on Friday, May 13, 2005 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center. Tickets for this event may be purchased by calling Toni at (301) 645-3556 prior to the event. Ticket prices are $50.00 a piece. To date the celebrity dessert auction will feature desserts donated and presented the night of the event by Delegate Sally Jameson, Principal Deputy Secretary of DHMH Van Mitchell, Paul Facchina of Facchina Construction, and Mike Besche of Besche Oil Company. We are so thankful to the local businesses, organizations, and neighbors for their generous support of lasts year’s event, which raised $33,521 for the support of Health Partners.

Thirteen years ago, the founders of Health Partners, Sister Michaeleen and Sister Gladys Marie, recognized the large and overwhelming healthcare need of the low-income residents in Charles County and felt it a top priority to help. The clinic operates out of a former elementary school at 3070 Crain Highway in Waldorf and is staffed by volunteer doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and clerical help. Primary medical care is offered to adults and children for the treatment of chronic illnesses and minor illnesses. Wellness and Health Preventative Education Programs are also provided, which feature such topics as General Wellness, Smoking Cessation, Nutrition, Stress Management, and Diabetic Counseling.

Please keep in mind that the support Health Partners gives to this rising population is not funded by Federal or State agencies. It acquires all of its funding for their one paid employee, medical tools and medication solely through donations from local sources such as, churches, community groups, businesses, private citizens, corporate sponsors, and grants. This is why the dessertfest committee would like for you to make a contribution to Health Partners through buying a ticket to our Gala. Let’s all come together to help our neighbors.
