News - Second Annual “RALLY for ROADS” to Bring 1,000 People to D.C. to Advocate for Transportation Funding

Rally to Urge Lawmakers to “Make Transportation Job #1”

Washington D.C. – Chaney Enterprises will join members of 14 transportation construction industry associations who are coming to Washington for the second annual “Rally for Roads,” the nation’s largest transportation funding advocacy rally on March 20, 2012. The first “Rally for Roads” drew more than 500 supporters last year and this year’s event is expected to double its participation.

“With continued high unemployment—combined with the loss of construction sector jobs—the need for strong surface transportation legislation has never been more important,” said Kerri Leininger, a “Rally for Roads” spokesperson and the senior vice president of Government and Political Affairs for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. “That sense of urgency is why we’re expecting such great support for ‘Rally for Roads’ this year.”

“Chaney Enterprises understands first-hand the high cost of neglecting to fund transportation construction in our country. It is not only our customers who are impacted, but every citizen who travels our roads and bridges every day,” said William F. Childs, IV, president and CEO of Chaney Enterprises.”The negative impact to everyone comes in the form of increased costs of products and services due to delays in road traffic congestion, damage to vehicles from ‘pot holes,’ and potential damage from structures which are no longer safe.”

“Rally for Roads” is a one-day event designed to promote the importance of a fully-funded, multi-year transportation bill and the role it plays on stimulating the economy, maintaining the nation’s global competitiveness and above all, creating American jobs. “By bringing workers from all facets of the transportation industry, its suppliers, and key legislators together, we will signal to Congress and the White House that America must make transportation job number one,” said Leininger.

“Rally for Roads” is sponsored by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA), Associated Equipment Distributors (AED), Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), American Highway Users Alliance (AHUA), American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA), National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA), Portland Cement Association (PCA), International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) and the US Chamber of Commerce.

“Rally for Roads” will begin 11:00am Tuesday, March 20, 2012 on the National Mall between 14th and 15th Street NW. For more information please visit www.rallyforroads.com.
