Montessori Middle School Project Wins Merit Award

The Mountaintop Montessori Middle School project in Charlottesville, VA has been recognized with a Merit Award from AIA Virginia.

The project was selected from 126 entries, with just 30 projects receiving recognition. AIA Virginia’s awards recognize projects that demonstrate thoughtful and engaging design. They considered factors such as sustainability, social impact, innovation, durability, context, performance, and meeting the needs of the client.

The addition was designed to complement the school’s original 1941 building, creating a seamless connection between the existing structure and the new space. The jury praised the project for its thoughtful reinterpretation of the original building’s form and materials and its ability to create new spaces that connect the interior and exterior.

Chaney contributed to the project by supplying ready mixed concrete, PermaBase CI, Laticrete MVIS System, Triangle Fasteners, Westlake’s Cultured Stone Tenley Brick in the “Loften” color blend and WorkRite WR103 “Aspen White” grout mortar.
