Breaking New Ground: Chaney Develops Its First Stone Quarry
Author: Madison Sloan
After more than 60 years of supplying the materials that build our communities, Chaney Enterprises is proud to announce a historic milestone: the development of our first-ever stone quarry.
Located in Stony Creek, Virginia, the new quarry represents a significant investment in the future of our aggregates business and our ability to better serve customers throughout Virginia and the surrounding regions.
Why a Stone Quarry?
Every road, bridge, school, warehouse, and home begins with quality construction materials. One of the most important ingredients is coarse aggregate—crushed stone that provides strength and durability to ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and countless other construction applications.
The Stony Creek Quarry will produce high-quality granite, a hard, durable stone known for its strength and long-lasting performance. Granite aggregate is widely used in ready-mix concrete, asphalt paving, road base, drainage applications, and commercial construction projects.
Owning and operating our own stone quarry allows Chaney to better manage the quality, consistency, and long-term availability of one of the industry’s most essential materials.
Strategically Positioned to Serve a Growing Region
The quarry is strategically located with convenient access to major transportation corridors including Interstate 95, Interstate 85, U.S. Route 58, and U.S. Route 460.
This location positions Chaney to efficiently supply aggregate to ready-mix operations, asphalt producers, contractors, and infrastructure projects throughout Southern and Central Virginia.
As construction activity continues to grow across the region, the Stony Creek Quarry will play an important role in helping meet increasing demand for high-quality aggregate.
Built for the Long Term
The Stony Creek Quarry has been fully permitted for stone extraction and processing and is being developed as a greenfield operation, meaning the site has been built from the ground up.
Development includes site preparation, infrastructure installation, and the construction of a modern aggregate processing plant designed to efficiently produce granite for decades to come.
Initial production will begin from Pit 1, which contains approximately five years of reserves. Future operations will expand into Pit 2, providing more than 50 years of additional production.
This long-term reserve ensures the quarry will remain a reliable source of construction aggregates for generations of infrastructure and development projects.
More Than an Investment
The development of Stony Creek Quarry is about more than increasing production capacity—it’s about strengthening Chaney’s ability to serve customers from the source.
By expanding into stone production, we’re creating greater supply reliability, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the continued growth of our ready-mix concrete and aggregates businesses throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
It’s another example of our commitment to investing in the people, equipment, and resources that keep construction moving.
Committed to Responsible Stewardship
Responsible land stewardship has been part of Chaney Enterprises’ philosophy for generations, and Stony Creek Quarry is no exception.
Throughout the life of the quarry, environmental stewardship and operational responsibility will remain a priority. Once mining operations are complete, the site will undergo reclamation, ensuring the land can provide long-term environmental and community value.
Our goal is simple: to leave the land in better condition than we found it while continuing to provide the quality construction materials our customers depend on.
