News - Chaney Delivery Pros Take Top Awards at Maryland State Roadeo

Demonstrating exceptional knowledge and skills, delivery professionals from Chaney Enterprises took top awards at the recent Maryland State Truck Driving Championships in Timonium on June 8.

Chaney Enterprises’ Aggregate Delivery Professional (ADP) Tyrone (Sam) Brown from Waldorf Sand & Gravel, Acton Lane Plant, won second place in the dump truck division.  Concrete Delivery Professional (CDP) Steve Waclawski from the Bestgate Plant won first place in the concrete mixer division and Billy Hickman, CDP at the Waldorf Plant, took second place and Tony Montfort, Waldorf Plant CDP placed third.

The truck driving competition consists of three phases. Drivers must execute driving maneuvers along a complicated field course that simulates conditions frequently encountered on highways or jobsites across the country. Next the drivers must successfully complete a pre-trip inspection on a specified vehicle; then, drivers are tested on their knowledge of operations and safety regulations. This year, driving professionals from 13 companies competed in 12 categories, including a safety pre-trip examination.

Waclawski and Hickman advance to the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s National Mixer Driver Championship truck driving tournament to be held September 22 in Las Vegas, NV. They will compete with more than 30 concrete delivery professionals from around the country.
