The Manufacturers, Products & Services Division of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has awarded the 2013 Concrete Cares Award to Chaney Enterprises of Waldorf, MD, in recognition of its holistic approach to community service and company-wide dedication to the communities it serves.
While economic recovery has been slow for our industry, Chaney Enterprises continues to support the communities it serves by donating 10 percent of its profits to worthy causes. In 2012, the company donated nearly $60,000 to community projects in eight Maryland counties. These donations supported fundraising events, capital improvements, education programs, needed materials and supplies, and included nearly $12,000 to support community athletic teams.
Throughout 2012, Chaney Enterprises donated concrete and aggregate to support Eagle Scout projects, Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, local schools, churches and non-profits, including the Charles County Hospice House, Homes for Our Troops, the Prince George’s County Lighthouse Project’s Family Crisis Center, End Hunger in Calvert County, among others. Chaney donated materials to make the Quiet Waters Park Reading & Butterfly Garden and Watershed Education Experience in Annapolis, MD, a reality. This 12,000 square-foot pocket garden supports the “No Child Left Inside” concept, offering a place where children may explore, appreciate and learn to preserve Earth’s natural resources. Chaney Enterprises presented its education program to over 1,400 students ranging from pre-K to college in Maryland and Virginia in 2012, blending history, science, social studies and math into its interactive curriculum. A donation in the name of Chaney Enterprises will be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis & Anne Arundel Country. Frank Chaney, chairman of the board of Chaney Enterprises, accepted the award during NRMCA’s Annual Convention being held this week in San Antonio, TX.
