Sand and gravel are such a large part of our everyday lives, not to mention the most mined materials in the world. One mile of a four-lane highway uses 38,000 tons of aggregates. A modern home can contain as much as 400 tons of aggregates.
Over 2,500 tons of Chaney’s aggregates and biosoils are playing an important role in the restoration project of our National Mall in Washington, D.C. America’s Front Yard hosts over 29 million visits which is more than Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and the Yellowstone national parks combined!
The effort to restore this popular area is being led by the National Park Service. Currently, this project is in its second phase that originally began in October 2014. This phase consists of four to five feet of damaged soil to be removed, an installation of irrigation drainage to be placed, a 250,000 gallon cistern to collect storm water for reuse, and then for completion, installation of compaction-resistant engineered soil to withstand all future foot traffic.
