News - Customer and Employee Focus Leads to 6th Annual Workplace Award

We’re proud to announce that once again Chaney Enterprises has been honored with an Alliance for Workplace Excellence Award noting our policies and best practices that play a big part in enabling us to provide a high level of customer service for our customers.

As one of only 66 companies in the Metropolitan Washington Region to be named as excellent workplaces, we’re also the only concrete and aggregate supplier in the region to be recognized.

The judges noted Chaney Enterprises for our supportive corporate culture and management practices, family and employee-friendly policies and practices, strong employee health and wellness initiatives, comprehensive growth and learning opportunities and demonstrating corporate social responsibility and employee volunteerism.

We also received recognition for our commitment to training and education through the Chaney University. In addition to position- and corporate-related training, employees participate in ongoing safety training courses specific to their areas of responsibility and that benefit the employee was well as the customer. All vehicle operators take defensive driving classes and mining personnel take site-specific training annually.

In addition, Chaney received the AWE Health & Wellness Seal of Approval to highlight businesses that promote professional fulfillment and personal wellness at work, home and in the community. Only 43 companies achieved this recognition.

As an example, Chaney helps its professional drivers maintain and refine their skills in a competitive environment through participation in state-wide and national truck roadeos, while a comprehensive wellness program helps improve the value we provide through fewer call outs and more on-time products.

Chaney employs more than 280 delivery professionals, support personnel and administrative staff located in nine Maryland counties and Virginia. All employees a comprehensive and affordable wellness program and currently Chaney Enterprises pays 80 percent of an employee’s health benefit, and employees who participate in the Wellness Program and Health Assessment have another 50 percent of out-of-pocket costs covered by the company.

All award recipients undergo a rigorous assessment process led by an independent review panel of business professional and master’s and Ph.D. level students in the fields of business, industrial and organizational psychology, human resources, environmental science, and public health. This is the 15th year AWE has recognized companies for their commitment to maintaining excellent workplaces.

The theme for this year’s awards event was “Equality and Empowerment in a Diverse Workforce.” The awards luncheon featured a keynote address by Maureen Gormley, Chief Operating Officer at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 by Montgomery County and Discovery Communications. Over the past 15 years, AWE has been dedicated to empowering employers to build excellence in the workplace as a means of supporting the quality of life for employees, their families, and the community at-large. AWE is dedicated to increasing the number of excellent workplaces within the business community through education and recognition, as a means to enhance the quality of life of its citizens and empower economic growth.
