News - Chaney Enterprises’ Delivery Professionals Wrangle Top Spots in Company Roadeo
In the Chaney mixer truck category, Lamont Hopkins of the Bestgate plant took first place, with Lawrence Gross and Barry Robey taking second and third place. Both are delivery professionals out of the Waldorf Plant.
C&D Concrete’s Jim Berryhill of the Salisbury plant took first place in their mixer category, with Brian Greenhawk of the Cambridge plant placing second.
Lewis Thompson of Rowe Materials competed unopposed in the Rowe mixer category, but received a high score, earning the first-place nod.
In the dump truck category, Susan O’Steen led in first place, followed by Samuel Brown in second place and Danny Willis in third.
This is the second year Chaney Enterprises offered a roadeo exercise for the heavy equipment operators. Contestants operating a front loader had to pull a certain weight of aggregate from the reserve to load in the dump truck. The trucks were weighed at the scalehouse and the operator placing the closest weight out of two tries garnered the highest points. Taking first place was Leland Hurley of Chaney Enterprises; Jim Berryhill of C&D Concrete placed second and in a three-way tie for third place were Bud Tarbox, Charlie Hurley and Mike Landers, all from Chaney Enterprises.
The winning concrete delivery professionals will compete at the Maryland State Truck Driving Championship later this summer in Timonium. Delivery professionals who place in that competition advance to the National Ready Mix Concrete Association’s national roadeo in the fall. Waldorf Plant CDP Mike Jordahl represented Maryland at the nationals last October.
