GAMBRILLS, MD, November 5, 2019 – Chaney Enterprises, a ready-mix concrete, aggregates, custom blends, and related construction supplies provider, announced that William “Bill” F. Childs, IV has been named one of Maryland’s 2019 Most Admired CEOs by The Daily Record.

The Daily Record created the Most Admired CEOs awards program to recognize talented business CEOs and nonprofit executive directors throughout Maryland for their leadership and vision.  The winners were selected based on professional accomplishments, community service and letters of reference submitted by co-workers, board members, and community leaders showing the CEO's leadership and vision.

Childs retired as CEO in October 2019 after nearly 30 years with Chaney Enterprises.  He continues to serve as a director of the company.  Under Childs’ leadership, Chaney Enterprises acquired both Dunkirk Supply (now BuilderUp) and PCS Concrete, the largest in the company’s history, making Chaney Enterprises one of the largest family-owned, ready-mix concrete and sand and gravel producer in the Mid-Atlantic by revenue, sales, and volume.  Over the course of Childs’ tenure, Chaney Enterprises introduced new concrete products and solutions, such as CarbonCure technology and Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction, that have made a significant positive impact on sustainability and environmentalism, a large focus of the company.

"This year's Most Admired CEOs demonstrate that leadership matters to our economy and to the quality of our day-to-day lives," said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record. "Many people are promoted into leadership roles, but only some people have the emotional intelligence, focus, drive and compassion to become an admired leader. We at The Daily Record are pleased to honor this year's Most Admired CEOs."

"Bill’s leadership style and vision for Chaney Enterprises has always revolved around the company’s founding principles of taking care of the people we serve, doing the right things the right way, and giving back,” shared Francis "Hall" Chaney, III, chief executive officer of Chaney Enterprises. "Our culture is firmly instilled in the members of the Chaney Enterprises team and Bill lived by that in many ways, including personally introducing himself to each new employee upon their orientation and spending an enormous amount of his time on developing and mentoring team members.  He’s incredibly deserving of this award and Chaney Enterprises is a better company because of him.”

A resident of southern Anne Arundel County, Childs earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Lynchburg and is a graduate of St. Paul’s School in Brooklandville, Md.

Childs was honored Nov. 5 at a reception at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport Hotel and profiled in a special section in The Daily Record’s Nov. 6 issue.
