News - 7 Things You Can Do To Place More Concrete

place more concrete

Over the last ten years, concrete has lost over 8% market share of the low/mid-rise building market.

To combat this issue, the National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA) Board of Directors have adopted a comprehensive building promotion plan to regain lost market share.  From 2004 to 2014 concrete’s share in the building segment went from 30% down to 22%.  During that same period, the wood industry’s share increased from 23% to 40%.

To reach the NRMCA’s goal of increasing concrete share from 22% to 33% within 5 years in low and mid-rise residential and nonresidential construction, your help is needed.

Here are seven things you can do to stop the slide and place more concrete:

  1. Support the building promotion program.
  2. Understand what is going on.  Developers are using wood-frame to build low to mid-rise buildings.
  3. Be entrepreneurial and promote concrete as the material of choice for buildings.
  4. Reinforce the branding and messaging of the building promotion program.
  5. Use the promotional, technical, and human resources available through NRMCA, its partners, and BuildWithStrength.com
  6. Assist changing local building codes so we can build safer and more resilient buildings.
  7. Be the eyes and ears of the industry by identifying developers who might be open to concrete solutions for their projects.
